Oh hey, I’m Travis. One year ago, life changed for me when my baby girl (Claire Bear) arrived in June 2015. Suddenly, the only thing that really mattered to me was her health and happiness (two things which, in my opinion, go hand-in-hand). But not just “in the moment” happy, but like, really, truly, kind-of-annoying-to-be-around, happy… to the core of her being. Life is just better that way. Ya know?
And as you’ll come to find out, I believe proper nutrition is where happiness begins. While nutrition is just 1 of MANY factors that determine happiness, I believe it’s a critical one. And perhaps the most challenging factor of all. As parents, we have a lot of control of what goes into our kiddo’s body (especially during those critical, early, developmental years). And as much of an impact that food can have on our kids’ developing brains and growing bodies, their short-term and long-term health, and ultimately, their happiness… that responsibility should not be taken lightly, in my humble opinion.
Before we move on, I’d like to point out that I’m not a doctor or nutritionist, nor some child psychologist.
What I AM is someone who has personally had a profound experience with nutrition and I want to share that with the ones I love the most. I’m a father who has made it a top priority to lay the groundwork which will provide my daughter with the healthiest, happiest life through nutrition.
With that said, I’ve got a LOT of work to do. Hence the creation of this site as a way to document my experiences and preserve the lessons I learn in the process.
So why are YOU here? Probably because I forced my way into your newsfeed somehow (sorry about that). But I’m hoping you’ll stay, and come back often. Why? Because I’d like to start a dialogue. Let me explain:
I have a growing sense that new parents in this day and age are more conscious of nutrition for their kids than any other generation in history of the world. Like, ever. With that said, just because we are more aware, it doesn’t mean we have the time, energy, or capability to efficiently make sense of the plethora of information out there and formulate it into a well-organized plan of action to be put into practice. I mean, for god sakes… is my kid alive? Okay, cool. I’m going to bed. Look, this stuff is hard. I’M WITH YOU. So let’s talk.
With this site, I hope to release some of that burden from you by taking the lead on doing the research, putting it into practice, and sharing my experiences (good or bad). And I will encourage you to share as well.
Okay, enough of the vaguery, just what the heck am I going to be writing about?
Well, in general, the site is a documentation of my journey with Claire. So by nature it will be a bit fluid because who knows where the process will lead me. So you can expect photos, posts, stories, etc. related to that.
But more specifically, I plan to hit on the following:
- Research-backed information about the best foods to feed your kids
- Clearing up any common misconceptions about what is “healthy”
- Recipes that I find particularly good/easy/fun to make
- Tips/tricks on getting your kids to eat good foods
- Humanely raised food
- Book summaries and recommendations
- And to a lesser extent, the latest research on parenting that I find particularly useful/relevant
- Random crap you’ll just have to deal with
*This site has not been featured on USA Today, The Today Show, The NY Times, and The Washington Post. But I’m super duper excited to delete “not” from the previous sentence whenever those guys decide to reach out to me.
